Triple Layer Moisturize & Seal

This weekend I wore my hair down and it went through kind’ve a lot of manipulation, so I wanted to do something more than just my normal moisturize and seal routine.  Although it wasn’t feeling extremely dry I wanted to prevent the problem before it happened.  I read about this method on LHCF quite some time ago, and I can’t for the life of me remember what this method is actually called.  I *believe* it was credited to hair guru, Chicoro, and mentioned in her book? But memory may or may not be serving me correctly.  So, since I can’t actually remember much more than that, I will call it the Triple Layer Moisturize & Seal (unless someone actually knows the “real” name).
Anyway, this method of moisturizing and sealing your hair is done as follows:

  1. Apply a water based moisturizer of your choice.  Either a leave-in conditioner, spritz, or other lightweight moisturizer.
  2. Layer on top of that a creamy moisturizer.
  3. Seal with an oil or butter product.
Originally I tried the method as instructed on LHCF (above) with Jane Carter’s Revitilizing Leave-In conditioner (liquid spray leave in), then followed with Bee Mine Luscious Balanced Cream Moisturizer, then sealed with an oil or whipped shea butter.  That gave me good results, but I hated the dampness of my hair after using the spray and the Luscious.

This week, I moisturized my hair in sections, going back to this method but with different products.  I began with a fingertip-sized amount of the BM Luscious, followed my a small amount of whipped shea butter (rubbed into my palms for even, easy distribution) and then sealed with one pump of my Rapunzel’s Hair Silk oil.  I think this is my magic combo!  My hair immediately felt muchhhhhhh softer and more moisturized.  I asked my friend to feel my hair to see if he could see the difference.  He laughs at my hair “obsession” but obliged and agreed it did indeed feel much softer.  Because I used such a small amount of each product my hair didn’t feel too weighed down, but I definitely wouldn’t do this daily if my goal was light, fluffy hair.  However, it did do the trick and immediately provide extra moisture, protection and softness to my hair!
I think I will continue to do this method anytime I feel my hair needs a little extra sumthin sumthin!

Look at the shine!! You have me seriously considering a clear rinse. Funny thing is my now ex-stylist suggested I get one last week.

I also do this and it works great!!!

Instead of spraying the water based product directly into my hair, I spray it onto my palms then apply to my hair in sections so I can see exactly how much is going onto my hair (“,)

Great idea! I find that I spray too much rose water/glycerin when moisturizing)

I usually do this when I’m air drying but I think I need to start using heavier products so I can achieve more moisturized hair. Thanks for this great post!

This is my go to method any time my hair isn’t straight, and I only straighten 3 or 4 times a year. For me there is no such thing as too much moisture, it retains my ends beautifully! Went from shoulder length to BSL in less than a year doing this method. Great post, thanks and God bless!

I have never heard of this method before. I am defiantly going to try it during the winter.

This method would definitely weigh my hair down when wearing it straight, but I want to try it when it’s in buns!
