Differences Between Hair Rinses Vs. Glazes

As most of you know, I do clear rinses on my hair about once per month (see benefits of clear rinses).  When I spoke about this addition to my hair regimen, I explained that there were quite a few different brands and types available and promised to return with more information and I’m making good on that promise!

All glazes, glosses and rinses are ammonia, peroxide and alcohol free, making them non-damaging for the hair and safe to use immediately after relaxing.  Rinses (also called glosses) are semi-permanent when processed with heat for up to 30 minutes. They can actually penetrate the cuticle and generally last between 2-4 weeks.  They also deposit more color, although this is not applicable when talking about clear rinses.  Glazes on the other hand simply coat the shaft and are best used to refresh the color and smooth the hair.  They are rinse out formulas and must be used following every shampoo.  Here are my thoughts on the different brands I’ve tried.  The Adore is my personal favorite.  I began using rinses primarily to add shine and smoothness to my hair and in my opinion the Adore rinse is the best at that.

My Thoughts
Price & Availability
John Frieda Clear Shine Luminous Glaze, 6.5 fl. oz.
Delivers high impact shine and satin-smooth texture
Leaves hair feeling amazingly silky.  Formula itself feels “rougher” upon application, has a “product” type of smell. Must be used every wash, more expensive than I prefer
$9.99, most readily available at Ulta.
Aveeno Color Preserving Shine Glaze, 4.0 fl. oz.
Scientifically shown to smooth the cuticle to enhance shine; Provides a Glassy sheen and helps prevent frizz, fly-aways and static
Used after shampooing and conditioning, smells great, has a creamy formula so application is a easier to be more thorough.  Best at smoothing hair, shine wasn’t very noticeable.
$6.99 at Ulta or 2 for $12 via Amazon:
Jazzing Gentle Shiny-Sheer Hair Color,
3.0 fl. oz. (10 – Clear)
Enhance, refresh, brighten and condition your hair
Gives brilliant shine, leaves hair feeling silky.
$4.99, available at beauty supply stores everywhere and Amazon: http://amzn.to/IpQBIQ
Adore Shining Semipermanent Hair Color,
4.0 fl. oz. (10 – Crystal Clear)
Vibrant, shining color that gives hair a beautiful, sensual feel that really lasts!
My favorite!!!  Superior shine and smoothness, plus it is the least expensive.
$4.49, available at beauty supply stores everywhere and Amazon:  http://amzn.to/IFy7F3

Loving the new look!…………….how are you ladies doing in the banging and swanging challenge? We’re just over 2 weeks into this and I know we can see this through! I suck at the exercising part but I’m determined!I want excersing to become the norm for me, getting a hot booty in the process is more than welcomed lol ;) ………..remember to eat healthy as much possible and drink plenty water (another thing I suck at, smh)………You don’t have to be great to start but you have to start to be great!……Please ladies put health first, it may not seem like much but things like your pants getting looser, you feel healthier, more endurance, drinking 4 glasses of water instead of 2 per day, etc. are big, no HUGE accomplishments :) We are always stronger than we think.

Hey hun! I love the new layout of your blog and the prayer for all of your readers is so sweet! Happy 1 year for you too! I want to get my natural hair cut into a style this summer and wear it out more. I’m trying to build up the courage to do it because I’ve never had short hair before. Wish me luck! Your hair is growing so beautifully!

Thank you! And you are brave, short hair is a lot of work for me, but I can’t wait to see it!
