Funny story – I was in Sally’s a few days ago stocking up during the 2 for $11 Kerapro sale when the middle aged saleslady (who is white) walked up to me staring and said “Your hair is SO beautiful.” I mean she was staring at Ms. Kelly’s curls so hard that I felt compelled to tell her “Thank you…it’s a wig.” Now I know that may seem strange to some of you – openly admitting that I am wearing a wig to a random stranger while in a retail store, but for me, such a compliment on hair that isn’t mine means that it looks very realistic and I did an excellent job blending. I don’t always bring it up, some compliments are said in passing and to respond by saying it is a wig will pull me into a longer conversation than was intended.
So anyway, after letting the saleslady in on my secret she really stared then and exclaimed “SHUT UP!” I mean she looked so long and hard that I blurted out, “Do you want to see?” No, I’m not ghetto enough to whip off my wig but I would’ve lifted a piece of my leave out to reveal the edge of the wig. Why? Because everyone pretty much knows how weaves are done, but I can understand someone wanting to know the mystery of how this wig can possibly look so realistic. So the saleslady responded “No, no…that would be like asking you to take out your teeth! I just can’t believe its a wig! Is it hot?” I replied no, that my real hair hangs slightly longer and since I dampen it to refresh the curls its actually cooler than wearing my own hair. She asked “Is it soft?” I said yes and she asked for permission to touch it. She reached out for a feel and said “Ohhhhh myyyyy it is soft! This must be human hair.” I responded that it was and allowed her to feel it a bit more. Then she began petting it rather repetitively and I chuckled and said “Well, now it’s getting a bit weird!” She laughed and said sorry, she got carried away. I’m telling you, this was the best $140 I’ve spent on some hair in a longgggg time. I’m currently adding more hair into the u-part wig I received from Tonsure hair a while back. I’m going to do a full comparison of the two in a few weeks, I have some interesting facts. Anywhooo, while I am looking forward to relaxing this weekend, I may only wear my hair out for a week before going back to Ms. Kelly, I’m loving her that much!
In other news – I picked up Russian Red by MAC with my recent back-to-MAC qualifications. Let me just say that this lipstick is worth every non-penny I paid for it! The color did not bleed, stayed on through activity in the sweltering heat, and just looks fabulous if I do say so myself. I love the makeup look I paired it with also, light eyeshadow, subtle black liner, no blush and pow the perfect red lip!
