I rocked this Thandie Newton inspired ninja bun yesterday, if you follow me on Twitter (@ECPrincess1) or Instagram (@EbonyCPrincess) then you saw the pics already. Although I enjoy changing my hair and trying new looks, this was definitely outside of my normal comfort zone – so I did it on a Saturday when nothing matters, lol! I realized afterwards that I hadn’t quite pulled the bun forward far enough to really get the look Thandie had but I loved the final results nevertheless. I will be trying it again to try to perfect it.
To achieve my Thandie Newton inspired ninja bun style I started with a fake twist out (two big flat twists just to get my hair up out of my face), smoothed my hair into a high ponytail near the front of my head, tucked and secured the ends under with a few hair pins. That’s it! Super easy and quite different. Video tutorial below:
Evidently Tae Heckard ( still have no idea who she is) is the one who coined this style the “ninja bun” and we just rolled with it. *shrugs* Whatever works – here she is rocking one of hers:
I really love the version Tyra did, it looks like her real hair was pulled into a tight lil bun and hair extensions were used to create the braid and wrap it around. At some point, I’d love to try my hand at recreating this look, even the makeup is perfect to me!
