How I Rollerset My Hair – Pt. II

How to Roller Wrap Your Hair

If you haven’t viewed “How I Rollerset My Hair – Pt. I” you will probably want to see that first to learn how I actually set my hair, this post is more how to roller wrap your hair, also known as a silk wrap.

  1. Rollerset your hair on medium to large sized rollers (this will differ depending on the length of your hair).
  2. Allow your hair to COMPLETELY dry, removing the rollers too soon will certainly leave you with frizzy hair.
  3. After removing the rollers, apply an oil or oil based moisturizer.  I always use Bee Mine Hair & Scalp Moisturizer because it always softens my hair, gives a brilliant shine, and gives me smooth results.  Because it is an oil based product, it moisturizes without causing reversion.
  4. Gently comb through your curls on a slight angle to begin the wrapping process.
  5. Comb your hair in a circle around your head using your head as a roller.  I try not to use a brush (neither paddle nor bristle).  To accomplish this, I begin with an extra wide tooth comb to direct my hair in a circular wrap and move down to smaller toothed combs to wrap my hair smoothly.
  6. Optional:  Apply saran wrap around your hair.  This can silken your strands a bit further, but I do not always do this step, at times it causes a bit of reversion on my new growth, but gives great results when I am freshly relaxed.  Some naturals report great results with this method so I would suggest you try it for yourself.
  7. Sit back under the dryer for 5-10 minutes.
  8. Either cover with scarf and go to bed or unwrap hair.  You will be left with smooth, shiny straight hair that has a lot of body and movement and best of all was achieved without using any direct heat!
