A few weeks ago I posted about my hair crush on Rasheeda of Love & Hip Hop Atlanta fame and many of you stated you loved her hair and style also. So I reached out to her management for an interview and Rasheeda graciously accepted and served up all the details about her hair, people doubting it is hers, her transition process to natural hair and more! I summarized a few notable points of our chat for you below – check out the video for full audio of the exclusive Longing 4 Length interview! (continue reading)
Regarding her hair:
As stated previously, Rasheeda does have long hair and 95% of the time wears her own hair. She utilizes clip ins on occasion to give her hair a break from styling and heat straightening, braiding her hair first then clipping the hair in (I described this method here).
If she is relaxed or natural:
Rasheeda’s hair is 100% natural, she transitioned from relaxed hair around 2006 using a lot of braid styles. Her transition lasted about 2-3 years, it was not something she heavily documented.
Regarding her hair regimen:
Rasheeda prefers wearing her hair curly and states that it actually curls when she wears a relaxer as well as when it is natural but they are two completely different curl patterns. Her regimen is pretty basic, she tries not to do too much, washing it a couple times a week – not too often as she notes shampoo dries her hair out and relies on Mixed Chicks conditioners with a combination of olive oil and water to refresh her wash n’ go curls.
About her skincare:
Rasheeda laughingly told me all she uses on her skin is good ol’ cocoa butter! (by the way, I’m on my way to grab some…she sold me!) She says she’s not into buying all the face creams, masks and such instead preferring either cocoa butter or even vaseline.
About her fitness routine:
Rasheeda and husband/manager DLo aka Kirk workout together. When they first got serious about getting fit they worked out 5 days per week doing 5 miles of incline walking and jogging per day and weight trained on alternating days. Now that she’s achieved her weight goals to maintain they follow that same routine about three days per week.
Current and upcoming projects:
Rasheeda owns an online accessory boutique, Imbossy.com, which sells cute urban earrings, necklaces, bracelets, sunnies, and even tees, tanks and soon hoodies. She has plans to expand into shoes and apparel soon – I told her my fave was the shirt that says “I’m the main chick, never the mistress” and Rasheeda let me know that everything sold contains lyrics from her songs. She also confirmed there definitely will be a Season 2 of Love & Hip Hop Atlanta and she will be a part of the cast so stay tuned! Keep up with Rasheeda on Twitter@Rasheeda.
Thanks for giving us the inside scoop Rasheeda, you truly were a pleasure to interview, it felt more like a chit chat with a girlfriend about the latest trends in hair and beauty. As she always says she a down @ss chick! Check the full interview below:
