You read it right in the title, I actually returned to my beloved rollerset this week, despite being about 10 weeks post! As I mentioned in my braidout bun post, my guy came into town and originally I was going to flexirod set my hair because I figured it would work better with my new growth. But, after it was all said and done, I decided to go semi-straight with a rollerset and silk wrap!
To begin, I had to detangle and remove all the shed hair from the braidouts I’ve been rocking. This reminded me why I traded braidouts for rollersets in the first place – I had so much more shed hair and tangles than normal! I followed my normally weekly regimen, BUT I used a new hair tool, the Roll-Ka-Comb I mentioned in my last wish list post…and lemme just say that my first impression is a powerful one. I will use it again a few more times before posting a review, but I was super excited! After rinsing the conditioner I decided to do a clear rinse for a bit more shine and slip in preparation to set my hair (see my discussion and review on clear rinses). During the process, my guy commented a few times that he liked my hair wet – which I interpreted to mean he hadn’t seen my true length since last September when I wore it straight and out plus a lovely YouTube subscriber asked literally weeks ago for a rollersetting tutorial – so I decided to do a rollerwrap.
Honestly, it was a breeze and only took me about 30-40 minutes to complete, reaffirming that MBL is definitely going to be my final step. Anything beyond that and I’m afraid I won’t enjoy doing my favorite styles anymore!
I actually did record my process and will post a full tutorial once its been edited so I won’t go into the details of actually completing my set. I will just say that I am still in love with my dryer and the mesh rollers are still the bomb.com! After about 45 minutes under the dryer, my hair was completely dry and I wrapped it with a bit of my Bee Mine Hair & Scalp moisturizer, which I always use for my silk wraps and once again, it delivered softness and incredible shine to my hair.
Sorry for the poor lighting…I had my “photographer” take these photos. See where he tried to fingercomb my hair down and you can literally SEE the finger marks?! ![]()
I’m so glad I decided to set my hair this week. Braidouts – pretty as they may be – are no good for me after a day or so of wearing. Per usual, I was lazy with moisturizing and sealing, doing a quick spritzing with the Bee Mine Juicy Spritz, my ends were not happy as they were tangled all around each other and overall its too much manipulation for me. A good rollerset is so much healthier for MY hair and I need not have a setback to be reminded! Anywhooo, I got great results and will be posting the tutorial soon.
Funny story, after rinsing the conditioner I had my normal towel wrap on which fits about where my bra would and my guy was watching me detangle. He asked if he could comb my hair and I said “ONLY IF YOU ARE GENTLE!” with a very serious face! He began combing (gently) and said “Uh oh…you are longing 4 length! Here’s where it stops (pressing comb into my back), what is this BSB?” I laughed and said “Yes I’m right at the bottom of my shoulder blade, I can feel where the comb is.” He got excited and insists that I’m bra strap length (which I am not) so I said 6 months in a weave will DEFINITELY get me there! He was on board with that statement! lol! I’m now officially excited to be returning to a weave after my next touch up!
