My Experience with Hair Vitamins

hair vitamins

I’ve never taken any hair vitamins consistently since the start of my healthy hair journey.  Not because I thought they didn’t work, I believe quite the contrary actually.  Every single woman I know (not saying everyone) who has taken their Hairfinity or even Nioxin (which are supposedly being re-formulated) hair vitamins consistently has noticed an increase in hair growth.  Despite that fact, there are three major reasons I’ve been hesitant to try any brand of hair vitamins:  (1) I didn’t want to spend the money for them (2) Many ladies report their faces begin to break out and (3) Some report accelerated hair growth all over – not just on their heads.  Now #1 applies to everyone, it really just depends on your pocketbook.  But reasons 2 and 3 are particularly bothersome for me because – as you know just from looking at me, but also from following L4L – my face is EXTREMELY acne prone.  I don’t need anything to cause breakouts, it does it all on its own!  The hairiness factor may be a bit less obvious, but if you have ever noticed in any of my styling tutorials…especially in the summer when my arms are exposed, I am a hairy creature.  Not just a little hairy, but a LOT.  My arms and legs are often more hairy then males!  When I was in middle school, the boys used to tease me and tell me to take a weed whacker or lawn mower to my legs.  In high school I attempted to wax my back at home before prom…a hilariously tragic story best saved for another day.  My brother still laughs and teases me about that little experiment to this day!  I share those stories to explain how real my hairiness is, don’t think I am exaggerating.   Blame my gene pool for both the hair and my acne.  I’m okay with both, but I certainly don’t need anything to increase either!!!  Now that you understand my background and reasons for holding off on purchasing hair vitamins, especially Hairfinity or Nouritress before now, check out my vlog below:

Yeah, so needless to say I won’t be taking the plunge for Hairfinity, Nioxin or Nouritress ANY time soon.  My skin is still not right and its been at least two weeks or more since I last took them.  I’m all for it if you don’t have any negative side effects but long hair with a broken out face is NOT cute to me.  I just can’t!  Jeni, of Just Grow Already, gets great results with hers…check her out for another side of the story! lol.

Dude. I thought I was the only one who is hairier than most women. As a child, I got teased about hair on my arms (and face) more times than I can count! I used to take Biotin grew from SL to APL in about 3 months. I stopped taking growth aids about a year ago but I may (MAY) start again. We’ll have to see. Thanks for sharing!

Wait!! No wonder I have these HUGE pimples on my face! I just started taking Biotin and was just telling someone that I didn’t know what the heck was going on!! Geesh!! Now that I know! Thanks!!

Make sure to drink plenty of water when taking biotin. I’ve watched a few youtubers talk about breaking out on biotin and a few had better results when they drank more water. It could also be one of those individualistic things. I haven’t had any problem with breakouts due to biotin and I notice the effects in my nails more than in my hair, but I haven’t been paying that much attention.

Honest video and great post! You are not alone with the hairy arms, my family and friends tug on my arm hair all the time, and my hair vits have only made it worse. I was teased about my arms in middle school too and I still have scar on my arm from when I tried cut my hair with a dinky pair of school scissors and nipped right into my flesh instead -_-

In total I’ve tried Nixion; GNC Ultra Nourish-Hair; GNC Hair, Skin, & Nails; Maxi-Hair, and Nature’s Bounty Hair, Skin, & Nails. Nature’s Bounty was THE worst for my acne, made me break out so bad, especially at my temples that of course scarred.

Thanks for the shout out, I’ll get a post up about all the hair vits I’ve taken one of these days lol

I know that I’m really late here but after my recent horrible experience with hair growth aids I am totally feeling your pain and I had to comment.

While I didn’t have such visible symptoms as you, I could FEEL involuntary muscle twitches all over my body every single day and I was fearing the worst until I figured out that it was the supplements causing me the symptoms and finally stopped taking them.

If you already eat pretty healthily you definitely don’t need hair growth aids. Aaah well, you live and learn right?
