Stuff Guys Say to Girls on Healthy Hair Journeys!

Before I get into this post, I must update new readers on a couple of facts.   My guy friend does not live in my city and listens exceptionally well to things I talk about, therefore he is always right on point with a lot of his commentary regarding my hair and the business side of L4L.  Those who have been reading for a while – this is the same man mentioned in my Atlanta trip, last rollerset and length check and convertibles and hair posts.  Just so you can get a good idea of our hair talk history…

  • Now the other day we were on the phone (we live in separate cities) and he randomly says to me “So, are you still rocking your Tyra Banks hair?”  I was thoroughly confused, so I said “Huh? Is that what you call this style?” He said “No…isn’t that what you SAID it was called, its Tyra’s hair?”  :-| Ummmm….no?  Then it hit me, “You mean VIVICA FOX HAIR?!”  I swear we both laughed so hard!!! Then he says “Tyra Banks, Vivica Fox same thing….ain’t none of ya’ll wearing your real hair!”  *sucks teeth* Whateva!!!
  • A few days later I was sitting on my couch fingering my extensions when I said “I’m so ready to take this weave out!”  He replies “You got a lot of new growth?”  I immediately got a (fake) attitude and asked WHO YOU LEARN ABOUT NEW GROWTH FROM?! *in my Bum-quisha voice whilst smacking gum* And again we cracked up!  He says “actually I remember that line from Poetic Justice when someone was trying to snatch Janet Jackson’s hat off and she said ‘Stoppppp, I got new growth gurl!’ so I put 2+2 together!”  All I could do was shake my head. Yes, I have a lot of new growth!  lol!
  • I was taking down my weave while on the phone and I was complaining about having to do it myself because my friend Carmelita (DrMystique12 on YouTube) usually has my hair out in under an hour.  My guy friend says “Stop complaining, you put it in there!” No sympathy whatsoever…
  • Along with my hair obsession, I also talk frequently about other beauty routines.  For example, we were talking about my nails the other day and we ended up in a discussion about acrylic nails.  I was saying not many people wear acrylics anymore, especially not the long square kind.  In my mind its very early 2000s.  I have a friend who insists her nails are so different because they are gel not acrylic and overlays not tips.  Whatevs it still requires a fill-in so in my mind, same thing.  So he said “Oh, are fake nails out or something?” I said yeah, most people rock either their natural nails or shellac (soak off gel polish).  He says “Oh, so people are wearing their real hair…I wonder if that trend will ever catch on with hair.”  You know what SHUTTUP! I love my wigs and weaves and no matter what you say…I’m gonna rock it!

During each of those times I said – you just made the blog, which is my phrase whenever someone gives me an idea or inspiration for a post.  And we laughed some more at his silliness.  Share some of your funny stories the men in your lives say about your healthy hair journeys…each time I do a post like this you guys leave the funniest comments and I love reading them!

Love him! He’s really listening and sounds super supportive. :-) My guy used to complain about the time I spent. At the very least, now he leaves me alone and realizes that the hair he loves so much requires time.

My dh once asked,” i haven’t heard of you touching up?” I asked him if he understood the term and he explained it quite well…I told him I was stretching and he asked how long? When I answered, he smiled and that said it all-he was pleased with how my hair looks now. lol He’s learnt more than half of the terms .He lovesssssssss the fact that am on a hair journey because it saves him his pocket.lol

How cute is that! That’s really sweet that your “guy friend” listens to you and connects the dots. My BF is the same way. We have been together for 5 years, so I feel like he has definitely been on my hair journey with me (which I started 1.5 years ago). He surprises me sometimes with how much he knows just from listening to me. He’ll ask me if I M&S’d, or tell me when he thinks I’ll make APL or BSL, etc. It’s to the point where when we’re watching football and a player has long dreds, he’ll tell me what length he thinks the players’ hair is and get my confirmation. LOL!

I can assure u ladies that if u are a beautiful, well dressed woman, then hair is not a big deal. I am a personal trainer in atlanta GA and here is where women would rather choose their “hair” over their “Health”. If i meet 50 women in a week and try to get them to come to one of my gyms for a “FREE” personal training class just to get them started, they all tell me what sweating will do to their hair! Even the black clients i have complain to me when they begin to sweat and want to stop and cool down and wipe down…lol. I found this site because i was looking up nicole’s “savemydoo” wraps because i am so tired of black women using their hair as a excuse not to take care of themselves physically. I see so many women here in Atlanta that have $500 weaves in their head but with out of shape bodies! I try to explain to every woman that a man will look at a woman just in some K-swiss tennis shoes, driving a late model Honda and a ponytail in her head BUT with a fit and in shape body BEFORE he looks at a female in “red bottom” high heels, driving a Range Rover and a $1000 weave in her head! Women here in atlanta have now turned to dressing to impress other women(even the single women looking for men). They care about their handbags, shoes, nails and proving to men they are so I..N..D..E..P..E..N..D..A..N..T (that was a popular song here in ATL for women) Back in the day it was just men who were buying things they didnt need or couldnt afford to impress the opposite sex, but now women are into buying over priced cars and 8 bedroom houses when it just them and one kid and spending thousands on handbags that most men have no clue of the difference between chanel and hermes or a bag you can get at WalMart…lol On my facebook page i posted a pic of Cara heads who is a olympic champion and she just like Miss Gabby cant always be weaved out because they NEED to train(u women were so hard on Gabby!!) but Ms Cara wearing some regular wal mart clothes and her hair in a Bun style and some gold hoop earrings could go to any club in atlanta and get most guys in that club to admire and look at her because of her fit body! Having a $500 hair style but with a old woman’s body is like a guy buying $5000 rims & stereo to put in a $500 junk car! It shows me that u spent hours sitting doing nothing while someone put tracks of horsehair on your scalp and spending alot of money to make ur HAIR look good ,but u cant pay $50 month and spend 30 mins twice a week to get ur body healthy?? My company “MSB Fitness”(we also on facebook) started a clothing line and one of our most popular shirts is called “Your Hair or your health” and its about trying to have both! We have to get back to the old days like when beautiful women like Thema from Good Times just rocked the naturals. True, part of the obsession black women have with their hair is not all their fault. I remember when i was in grade school in the 80′s before the “gerri curls” came out and we as boys would talk about the little black girls hair so bad that they would cry. The Little Rascals was big back then and Buckwheat was a known favorite charactar and any girl that didnt have hair like the long straight hair of the white or mixed girls or like all the female teachers in the school ,we boys would talk about them calling them buck wheat and “haystacks” ,etc. Planting that seed so early in a little girls head would make anyone hate their natural looking hair later on in life without a doubt. Those women from that era are now grown and still look at their hair as we little boys did back then and thats sad. Women in Atlanta are buying butt pads and getting butt injections to get noticed now and i am trying to show them through MSB training that they can build the body they want through weight training (Muscle Shapes Bodies)but they cant sweat because of their hair….lol So please stop trying to make men support the movement of having weaves and tracks because most guys dont like it! Ever have sex and during sex a guy grabs ur hair?? Welll i did it just once and it wont EVER happen again…lol I cant wrestle with my girlfriend when she has “the hair” in and sometimes it even has a bad plastic/synthetic smell that last for days! Sorry ladies but i think i speak for most men when i say to worry more about shaping and toning ur body up and ur skin looking smooth and soft and glowing because if u have those qualities going for u and u happen to have a “bad hair day”, u can always rock a nice scarf over ur head and some gold hoop earings and call it a day and u will look just as good to him as if u had a $500 weave! Now as for the wigs, i dont mind them cause thats kind of like a guy with his ball caps! We wear a hat when we need a cut and just didnt have time or if we are going bald but like the hats, the wigs come off and a woman can still workout and sweat and play etc. I am all for wigs and think we should have a wig/scarf month where women go a month just wearing naturals, wigs or scafs and join a gym and give it their all for 30days and see if they dont get hooked! My girl Nicki Minaj is a wig fan so i will be sure to see if i can get her behind this new movement and see if we can stop making those other people so rich from our people buying so much of their products! I was told black hair care is a 9 BILLION dollar business and just like oil and other dependants that our country is slaved to, we as people need to get free of this FALSE crutch that we think we need and focus on living as long as everyone else by fighting obesity, high blood pressure, suga etc! We all have the blueprint to getting and staying healthy and living a long life but u have to chose to follow it…… “MSB Fitness”
