It is my goal to upload one tutorial per week during our protective styling challenge (#L4LPSC) and this is the first, a braided crown hairstyle. I have admired this look for quite some time and one of the great things about this style is you can have anything from chin to waist length hair and make it work!
How to Create a Braided Crown Hairstyle:
The style is created simply by combing your hair outwards in a circle from a point near the middle of your head, finger parting near your ear to begin and fashioning your hair into one giant french braid (or cornrow) along the outside of your head in a circle. Braid your hair all the way to the bottom and pin the length along the braid to “close” the crown.
As I stated in the video, your braiding doesn’t have to be perfect, in fact the goal of some who rock this style is to create a messy braided crown hairstyle. You can choose to do the braid loose or tight, it really is up to you – both ways look great.
Braided crown hairstyles can be dressed up or down and suits most faces well. One of the things I love about protective styling in general during the winter is the peace of mind of not having your hair rub against your thick fabrics and winter accessories, keeping your hair moisturized and breakage free.
Try your hand at the braided crown and show it off via Instagram with our hashtag #L4LPSC!!!
