Natural Hairstyles for Work

Natural Hairstyles for Work If you follow me on Instagram (@curlsandmo) then you know I LOVE a good twist out. But, if you’ve noticed, I only wear my hair “out” on the weekends. Working in Corporate America definitely has its demands and limitations. One of them being that I not only ensure that my attire is work-appropriate but also that my hair is, too. My answer: two-strand twists. I wear my hair like the picture above Monday through Friday and take down my twists on the weekends to have a bit more fun. The picture above was taken at an after-work natural hair event during NY Fashion Week. All I did was pin my hair up in the back and pin it back in the front. It was super easy and took me less than 5 minutes.

One natural hair trend/protective style that I’ve been seeing a lot lately is Marley Twists. Many natural ladies have installed the chunky twists this winter to wear as a protective style. My fellow L4L Staff Writer, Roni, installed Marley Twists last week and I thought it would be a cool idea to showcase two work-appropriate styles for you ladies with Marley Twists (or box braids). These styles can also be achieved with two-strand twists and locs – depending on the length of your hair.

In this picture Roni is wearing a simple bun. Buns are a great way to look chic when you’re in a hurry. Here Roni has gone with the very popular top bun but you can always wear a low bun which is a very appropriate natural hairstyle for work as well. Sometimes I even switch it up and wear a low side bun.

In this picture Roni is wearing a low faux bun at the bottom and a large flat twist across the front. She simply looped the hair in the back as if she was going to wear a ponytail but didn’t pull the hair completely through. Another style that’s super easy, chic and work-appropriate.

If you’re like me and get bored with the “office” hairstyles Monday through Friday try sprucing your look up with accessories and/or neutral makeup looks. From my picture above you can that my two-strand twists were easy to dress up and took me from day to night by adding some accessories and a red lip.

What is your go-to natural hairstyle for work?

Have you tried Marley twists yet? If so, what do you think?

Very nice:-) Im happy to live in Cooperative Sweden so i can wear my hair however i want. Wish sometimes i was pushed a bit to wear dignified hairstyle as the one above. Some mornings i spend 3 minutes just brushing through my hair and that is it.
