Wash Day: The Power of Prepooing!

Maybe you have noticed my lack of wash day posts lately…maybe you haven’t.  I’m not keeping you in the dark – I’ve been so preoccupied lately that I’ve been washing every other week since Christmas.  And trust me, by the time I finally did carve out the time for my hair – I was disgusted with myself.  I had felt dryness in my ends and suffered with an itchy scalp the last few days!  And because I’ve finally achieved the healthy ends of my dreams, I’m extremely paranoid about them thinning or needing a major trim again.  I vow to NOT go 2 weeks without washing and conditioning while my hair is “loose” (not in a weave) for the rest of 2013!

Although I have moisturized and sealed my hair every day, sometimes twice per day, I knew my hair needed some serious TLC.  So after sectioning and twisting my hair into large twists, I pulled out my trusted extra virgin coconut oil warmed a generous amount for 30 seconds in the microwave. I proceeded to dip my ends in warm EVCO – completely saturating them.  As I squeezed the excess oil from my ends my previously stiff, dry hair felt smoother, softer and in much better condition.  Encouraged, I poured the remaining oil over the rest of my hair and scalp, smoothing it down the hair shaft and massaging my scalp.  Again I could feel the difference in my hair.  I placed a shower cap on my hair and sat under my electric heating cap to aid further penetration of the oil for about 10 minutes.  Next, I jumped in the shower to rinse the oil and I literally smiled as the water ran through my hair.  It felt amazing!!!  Not that I needed any further proof but if I did my experience this weekend completely convinced me of the power of prepooing!

power of prepooing The rest of my wash day consisted of chelating with CHI Clean Start, deep conditioning with my wonderful Kerapro Restorative Intense Treatment.  I applied a few squirts of the OBI Naturals Curl Enhancing spray that I talked about in my Winter Favorites and sealed with Optimum Care 6-in-1 Miracle Oil (review coming very soon).  After “faux airdrying” my hair felt soft, smooth, shiny, silky and well conditioned.  Crisis averted.  Prepooing and EVCO are the bomb dot com dot org dot life!

I’ve just been rocking an air dried bun since then but will have a styling tutorial uploaded later in the week.  If you ever feel you’ve neglected your hair, a bit of extra care with your favorite oils may do the trick!

Pre-pooing with oil is my favorite thing to do in the winter. I’ve ever tried coconut oil, but it sounds like I might have to give it a try. Great post! I’m glad to have the wash day posts back. :)

“Prepooing and EVCO are the bomb dot com dot org dot life!” LOL. Great post, pre-pooing doesn’t get enough love but it really does make a world of difference! Your bun looks so soft and full, like if you squeezed it, it would just spring back up :)

It’s a conundrum–how can doing a treatment before you wash make such a difference? Ha-ha! I guess that’s another one of life’s mysteries. Pre-pooing rocks! I love your big old bun!
