Hair Ramble: Beyonce Hair for the Summer

I’m so totally impressed with the amount of protective styling I’ve been doing lately!  Weaves during November and December of last year, the protective styling challenge this year and the surprise of all surprises…I’m not (totally) losing my mind!  On top of that, guess who I am inspired by for my summertime look?  (Yes, I am already thinking about summer…ain’t nobody got time for these freezing temperatures!)

Yaaaaasssss hunni, Queen Bey!  I want the big  Beyonce hair, the Beyonce hair color, the Beyonce hair curls…basically, I just want Beyonce’s hair!  I was already feenin’ for some color, but after seeing her not strut but STOMP that Superbowl stage all while tossing her hair every millisecond, I was convinced that I am meant to embrace and release my inner Baddie Bey!

I’m not sure if I want to go quite so blonde in the front since the most I’ve ever done in the past is a bit of auburn-ish highlights, so my final look may be a bit more like this:

But either way, I’m ready!  I’m thinking that I may just have a weave installed with my very first closure!  Virgin curly, custom colored, the whole nine!  I’m so not a fan of coloring my hair – double processing is a no go for ME – so one of the many reasons I love weave so much is to add color and texture I don’t have naturally.

Now, I have watched a few YouTube tutorials on using a closure and here’s my problem.  Everyone has their own preference and although I don’t mind wearing down-to-there extensions, having an unnatural closure is just not acceptable for me.  Don’t ask me why I’m so adverse to it, but the wiggy look of some drives me nuts!  On the other hand, some ladies have closures so amazingly natural that they had to tell me it wasn’t their scalp because otherwise I would never know.  From what I’ve gathered, a big part is having bleached knots.  I’m going to purchase a closure that has the knots already bleached if possible.  I’m not trying to do it myself…nope and uh uh.  I also plan to have my hair braided around the part I plan to wear so my scalp will align with the part of the closure.

Now, I know some L4L readers have had experiences with closures, what are your tips? And somebody please tell me I’m not the only one dreaming about their summer hair already?

Hi eb! My summer hair will be a short curly bob type wig or half wig. I’ve actually been eyeing a few already. In this Miami heat, long hair in the summer is almost INSANE! : )

I have long been a user of hair closures with weaves because I do not do blending. My suggestions are: lace closures are better for newbies because they are flatter and the knots must be bleached. Also, get a lace color nearest to the color your skin color. The density should not be over 85 to 95%. Thin the hair at the front of the closure. Add a “scalp” material to the underside of the closure (try a satin or silky fabric a shade lighter than your skin color. Also, do not cut the edge of the lace in a straight line and leave yourself about 1/4 inch from where the hairline starts.
