HOTD: French Braid Pompadour

I’m calling today’s protective style a french braid pompadour ‘do.  Nothing special, just a different take on my regular french braid hairstyle which has quickly become my go-to protective style.  I think I prefer the french braid over buns (for now anyway) because your hair doesn’t have to be particularly sleek, flat, or straight to rock it well.  You don’t have to be an expert braider – a loose french braid looks just as fabulous as a meticulously tight one, in fact I think the looser braid looks more grown up.  Plus, french braids place very little tension on the hair and edges (as opposed to buns) and mine don’t even require any hair or bobby pins to hold in place!

Anyway, I just wanted to show you my hair of the day look and give you additional protective styling ideas.  How is the challenge going for you?  Have you been checking out the looks from other participants on Instagram with our hashtag (#L4LPSC)?  Also, if you use our regular hashtag (#L4LHair) you’ll see lots of hair inspiration which may not be protective styles per se.  With all of us sharing our various styles, I doubt its possible for me to get bored or run out of ideas, plus I’ve been sticking to my word of doing at least one tutorial per week!

Although this was a very fast style to create, I really did like the final result.  Simple and chic!

For those who missed my french braid tutorial – I’ve included how I styled this look below, trust me its quite easy!

I love that style! Going to try it myself soon, maybe closer to end of the week. I’m relatively freshly relaxed and I’ve realized that the beginning of the week, right after wash day, my hair likes me to keep things simple with bunning and my EZ comb. However, once I’m a couple of days post wash day (and have a bit more product on my hair from daily M&S) then my hair likes it if I switch it up a bit, and I am also loving french and dutch braiding. The weekend I added flat twists in the front and braided the back and I got compliments all around.
