Protective Styling – I’m Cashin’ Out!!!

Hair Ramble Sooooooo, I haven’t felt restricted the entire time of our challenge and in fact was seriously considering wigging, weaving and protecting to full BSL.  I have plenty of hair to choose from…and a few things I am excited to do for the first time (such as go blonde), so why not?  Well randomly my bestie texted me that she needed to talk to me about something later, but that she was at the hair dresser’s at the moment.  And picturing her having her hair freshly relaxed and rollerset…that’s when it hit me like a ton of bricks! I’m cashin’ out at the end of our challenge! *pause for ratchet dance break*

I’m dying to wear my hair down for a while! Smooth and straight, bouncy and rollerset, small flexirod curls…I’m so looking forward to April 15th (the end of the challenge) and my next relaxer touch up.  I haven’t been stressing whether or not I have retained length, because honestly….its inevitable that I did.  I didn’t enter the challenge with any length goals in mind so I am not that anxious to see my progress, because I know there will be progress of some kind!

I’m just so proud I’ve only worn my hair down for a few hours once in three months and not used direct heat at all.  For those who’ve been following my journey for a while, you know that’s pretty remarkable for me.  However, as I have always said – I refuse to force myself to hide my hair for the sake of gaining length.  So at the end of this challenge, I’m pulling out my rollers and plan to let it whip!

How’s everyone else feeling as we enter the home stretch?

You really tried to wear your hair down only once in three hours!! I don’t know if I could do that!!! Can’t wait to see how much length you’ve retained!

Thanks girl, yes I can’t believe it myself – never thought I’d see the day that I kept my hair up and hidden for three whole months!

  • Misskthpriss

loved this post…some days I’m like “I can do this forever” and sometimes, I just want to wear my glory!

This is EXACTLY how I feel, lol! I think after touching up and being “out” for a couple of weeks, I’ll be good.

I have felt the same way. I’ve pretty much been bunning the entire time. I hope I have retained length, but I can’t wait for this challenge to end.

Same here! I know I retained length on the sides, but I may have nape breakage :( But I am happy I tried a sew in and got some new half wigs :)

I’m growing my nape out too, I used to always have it “shaped up” at the insistence of my mother and I cannot wait until it is the same length as the rest of my hair!

Me too girl, I was good for the first two months but now….I just need a break, even if just for a couple days!

I’m looking forward to seeing what you gonna do with blonde also looking to participate in your next challenge. I missed out on this one but my hair is always hidden anyways so its was no biggie.

Alright girlie! The next challenge will be rollersetting and I really enjoyed this one last year…looking forward to having you along!

LOL! I just need a couple of weeks of tossing MY hair around, then I’ll be good!

I’m sure you retained length. Your hair grows like weeds. Looking forward to your update. My sew in challenge is getting easier for me. I’m a qtr of the way in. I kept my hair in protective styles anyway so I’m to curious to see what true low manipulation will do for my retention and possibly help my weak bangs. I’ve fallen in love with wigs. I would’ve hid my hair sooner had I known it would’ve been this much fun and so easy. I get more compliments on my short wigs than I did on my hair so I’m loving it. For me hiding my hair like this is new, I felt like this is one of the things that would help me retain more length. Most people don’t even know that I’m not “swangin” hair that isn’t from MY scalp. Sure I miss my length checks, but I know my long term goal will be greater.

Thanks sis! I keep trying to tell people that wigs are one of the best inventions ever! There are so many options, no matter what look you want or the budget you have. I think I’ll be getting a sew in this summer, so I’ll be half-hiding my hair right along with you. And honestly doing less length checks makes my HHJ much more enjoyable but I can’t lie, I’m looking forward to my next touch up!

Would love to see blonde look also….

I totally loved this challenge. I’m 13 weeks post as of yesterday (longest I’ve gone so far) and so proud of me for making my goal of 14 weeks-relaxing on Saturday.

I’ll do it down for my day o’birth and then the last week of the challenge I’ll be on a cruise (squeeeeee!), so I should be able to make it with some cute high buns thrown in!

Can’t wait to see my hair soon. I would NOT have gone this far/been as successful if I hadn’t started this challenge! :D

YAY! I am so happy to hear the challenge helped you, I wouldn’t have made it this far without ya’ll either. I’m also about 13 weeks post and looking very forward to relaxing at the end of the challenge!

Irony my side is – I’m planning to put in box braids, and very soon. The climate this side is wreaking havoc on my hair. Even whilst PSing, the heat and humidity causes major sweating, which in turn causes my hair to clump together and it is a mission and a half to detangle. I’m not even sure if I can make it another 3 weeks before putting in the braids, I feel like I need to take a drastic step as soon as possible to protect and save the progress I’ve made so far.

    • http://www.longing4length.com/ EbonyCPrincess

I admire you for wearing your hair out as often as you do…if I lived in the type of heat you do, I’d probably STAY in wigs, weaves or braids!

You’ve been in TN too long quoting these ratchet southern songs lol. Congrats! You’re a southern gal now! Welcome to the club!

If only you knew…but right now I am totally into Wale so I feel like I am still clinging to the NJ in me!
