I’ve been trying to wait to update until I had some really great photos and a perfect length check, but that is definitely not going to happen until I have my hair done again (which will be VERY soon!). So rather than keep you in suspense, I decided to just give you a quick update on what has been going on with my hair lately - because I just know all of you are waiting with baited breath, right?
I removed my braids after wearing for six weeks at the salon. Since I always travel home to New Jersey for the holidays, I treated myself to a visit to the salon with my very trusted stylists. After unraveling the braids, my hair was sprayed with leave-in conditioner and carefully combed through to remove shed hair. My hair felt extremely soft and moisturized and surprisingly not dirty at all, despite me only washing it once in six weeks. Next, my stylist shampooed my hair twice and deep conditioned. Afterwards, she used a wide tooth comb to detangle my hair and since I was twelve weeks post relaxer, she combed my hair straight down and sat me under the dryer for about 15 minutes to remove the bulk of the water. Next, my hair was lightly blow-dried then flat ironed.
I decided it was time for a bit of change so I requested to have bangs cut. I gave a little teaser on Instagram (@EbonyCPrincess) with the cut hair and your reactions were funny, but I won’t lie – I would’ve said many of the same things! I loveeeeeeee the results…I haven’t had blunt bangs since I was about 10 years old!
My hair is grazing BSL but again I didn’t get an official “length” check and please excuse the poor angles of the pictures. My mother took the pictures and I promise – she’s the world’s worst photographer, but she tried her best…bless her heart! I did NOT have my hair trimmed. While discussing my length plateau many of you suggested I stop trimming as frequently, especially with all of the protective styling I’ve been doing so I heeded your advice. I’m happy I listened because I am pretty pleased with the state of my ends:
My roots reverted a bit rather quickly, but I was still able to save the style. Christmas Day I used my interchangeable curling wand, which I absolutely LOVE, to add some loose waves and I gotta say, my bangs were poppin!
Overall, my hair is coming along nicely. I realize that somewhere along the line, I’ve had some random breakage (as evidenced by short strands throughout my head) which is causing the length to be thinner than I’d like. So my plan is to enjoy my hair a bit more – and give it an adequate amount of time to rest and recover – before braiding it back up for more wigging and protecting. Eventually I’d like to have the back length cut straight across as bluntly as my bangs…they just look so great!
