If you are a regular visitor to L4L then you already know – no matter what the style, keeping my hair healthy is my number one priority! It doesn’t matter if you wear weaves as a means to grow out your own hair, to give yourself a break from styling your hair, for a low maintenance option, to explore color, for vacation, to change your style, because you just don’t like dealing with your hair or all of the above…everyone should maintain a basic weave hair care regimen to keep their real hair healthy beneath the weave. It is important not to use heat regularly for blending relaxed hair with wavy weave because excessive heat use will lead to breakage. Plus…who wants to HAVE to reach for a flat iron or curling wand every morning before leaving the house?! Not me!
My current weave is with Perfect Locks virgin Indian curly hair extensions which have a deep wavy texture. I’ve been able to achieve perfect blending of my relaxed hair with the wavy texture of the weave simply by doing a braid out at night. I do four small plaits using hair from both my leave out and some of the weave in each braid, leave in overnight and release the next morning for a beautifully blended weave. Perfect Locks’ hair is so amazing, absolutely no product is required but I will wet any frizzy areas that may need a bit more definition and scrunch in a bit of Garnier Fructis Curl Sculpting Cream gel. It really does not get much easier than that. Naturalistas may choose to use this same method as well if their hair doesn’t exactly match the texture of their extensions. I always make sure to moisturize and seal my leave out regularly along with avoiding direct heat as much as possible. I can’t tell where my hair ends and the extensions begin, can you?
