Birthday Wash Day: Jumbo Flexi Rod Set

jumbo flexi rod set

Ya'll know I can be long winded...so I'll try to keep this short, for your sake!  I celebrated my 30th birthday this week!  WHOOO HOOO!  I'm going to do a personal post on that later, but right now I only have time to tell you about my last wash day. No prepoo again this week (eek!) because I'm reviewing some new products from Profectiv MegaGrowth. Shampooed with Profectiv MegaGrowth Stimulating Shampoo Deep conditioned with Profectiv … [Read more...]

Wash Day: Flexi Rod Set…Finally!

flexi rod set on natural hair

I refuse to be one of those healthy hair journeyers who does less and less with their hair as they grow; I am soooo not an airdry and bun kinda girl despite what I've become lately, lol!  The whole point (for me) of growing my hair is to enjoy it...so by golly I'm gonna!  I asked via the L4L Facebook page what I should do to my hair this week and my a slim margin, a flexi rod set was most requested. I shampooed with Giovanni Smooth as … [Read more...]

Wash Day: How to Apply Amla & Brahmi Powders to Hair

how to apply amla and brahmi powders to hair

Again, this week I used my recently purchased Indian hair products.  I mixed amla and brahmi powders with coconut oil and water, which worked very well as my prepoo, shampooed with Giovanni Smooth as Silk and followed with a moisturizing deep conditioner, the Vatika Naturals Virgin Olive Deep Treatment.  I believe I have perfected how to apply amla and brahmi powders to my hair so I thought I'd share my "recipe" with everyone. Warming the … [Read more...]

Wash Day: Giving Amla A Go!

Longing 4 Length

My reasons for trying Amla: After doing my research on amla, I knew I would begin to incorporate not only it but other Indian hair products into my hair regimen.  In short, amla has anti-fungal, bacterial and inflammatory properties, strengthens hair at the root, naturally darkens the hair and provides a lustrous shine (see the original post for more information).  I decided to use Amla primarily to prevent (more) grey hairs and give a … [Read more...]

Weekday Wash & First Impressions

dabur-virgin-olive-hair-mask

Sooooo even though I relaxed and flat ironed my hair on Friday, I washed my hair yesterday.  You are probably wondering why, right?  Well, my scalp still felt like there was "stuff" on it and my hair began feeling a bit dry from the effects of the no-lye  Amla Legend relaxer (none of which I experience with the Optimum Care Salon Collection relaxer).  I can't remember the last time I washed my hair three days apart from one another but … [Read more...]

Wash Day: Pre-Relaxer Regimen & Rollerset

pre-relaxer regimen

The Protective Styling Challenge officially ends on Monday, April 15th and I am so ready. I am so grateful for all of you hanging in there with me. For the OG's to my personal HHJ you know I am so not about that long term protective stylin life so you were the push I needed!  So this is the last wash day before my touch up and I followed my normal pre-relaxer regimen:  (1) Prepoo with warm coconut oil (for my own journaling purposes I would … [Read more...]

Wash Day: Braid Take Down Time!

Wash Day

After wearing the same set of cornrows under my wig for the entire month of March, I took them down for a really thorough wash day this weekend.  Similar to my weave take down process, I applied grapeeed oil generously to lubricate my strands to minimize tangling and then carefully unbraided each cornrow making sure to remove any shed hair as I worked. I am about 14 weeks post relaxer so I have a lot of new growth and I was expecting a decent … [Read more...]

Wash Day: Same ole braids…but time for a new wig!

Longing 4 Length

I know the end of the challenge has been a lot more boring than the start, and I apologize for that, but I'm 13 weeks post-relaxer!  Ain't nobody got time to be wrestlin' with new growth and possibly causing breakage for the sake of being creative with styles, ya know?!  So...as I mentioned in Hair Care Beneath the Wigs, I try to keep the same set of braids in for at least a month to REALLY minimize maniuplation for maximum growth … [Read more...]
