Finally I’m back with the Chic Chic segments! It seems a lot of you actually enjoyed my fashion recommendations and missed this feature when I stopped posting. For those who began following L4L since that time, Chic Chick gives my take on what to wear to various occasions – including hairstyles. I’m definitely a planner so as soon as I am made aware of an event, I begin thinking of what I am going to wear, how I will accessorize and of course, how I should style my hair! This installment contains my suggestions for what to wear to a holiday party for work. “Work” may be your employer holiday party, your hubby’s company party, or a professional organization’s gala – they all require a level of decorum that makes you think about what is appropriate, right?
My next suggestion is to wear a dressy jumpsuit. It can leave a lasting impression with your colleagues as you will stand out from the women who donned dresses for the occasion. Plus you will never feel over or underdressed in case you are not quite sure of the attire, as is often the case when accompanying your significant other. Black is safe, yet sexy and this choice has a bit of lace detailing for a feminine touch. Going back to my preference for jewel tones, I accessorized the outfit with emerald and gold. I’d rock this in a heart beat!
Alright, my last suggestion is a bit outside of the box. This is for the ladies who know the company of whom they will be keeping and feel comfortable going all out without being too revealing. Leather and skater skirts are all the rage right now, so I combined the two trends and paired it with a glittery off the shoulder top. Showing your shoulders is sexy without exposing too much cleavage. Since the skirt is a little on the shorter side, I personally would opt for tights (also for warmth – it is winter after all) but for those who are anti traditional hosiery, try a flesh toned pair of fishnet stockings.
So there you have three different outfit inspirations, all of which contain super affordable pieces. Now that you have your outfit planned, what do you plan to do with your hair?! I think structured updos end up looking overdone and a bit prom-like, so stick to soft silhouettes and messy waves. You can never go wrong with loose waves, which works for ANY length of hair as demonstrated by three of the women from The Best Man Holiday cast. Use a curling wand for the best results – natural looking waves, this interchangeable version will give you tons of different looks.
Roller wrapped hair is always a great option, plus it is a non-damaging way to style your hair. It is a professional look but has volume, curl and body depending on the size rollers used. You can even touch it up with a large barreled curling iron for a bit of extra umph! Hey…if it is good enough for First Lady Michelle Obama, then it is good enough for me!
If you want to be a bit more formal, as I said skip the traditional updos. Try a simple, sleek ponytail to show off your face and makeup! Easy and you don’t have to worry about your hairstyle lasting through the entire evening!
I realize all of these options are for straight hair – naturals looking for a bit of hair inspiration should check out Roni’s previous post: Dressed Up Natural Hair.
