Design Essentials Strengthening Therapy System (STS)

Design Essentials Strengthening Therapy System (STS)

Hey y’all!  This is my first post here on L4L, so I think its best that I give you a brief introduction…I’m Roni, a natural hair blogger (amongst other things) and author of the blog The Savvy Housewife.  I’ve been natural going on 4 years now and I love it.

Now with all of that out of the way, I would like to thank Ebony for the opportunity to sit in on my first hair care webinar. It was hosted by Design Essentials, a company that “offers a strong commitment to improving the look and feel of your hair by providing healthy hair styling products.” They have a new system that is hitting salons that is marketed to naturalistas (like myself) and transitioners. The Design Essentials Strengthening Therapy System (STS) is “a state of the art, amino-acid infused, Thermal Reconditioning System that goes beyond strength to fortify, stretch and smooth frizzy, naturally curly, transitioning and processed hair without harsh or permanent chemicals.” Now that is a mouthful…so let me share with you my take on STS.

STS is a heat activated, non-permanent, protein based treatment that last up to 6-12 weeks depending on how often you was your hair. STS is made up of four signature products: Strengthening Therapy Sulfate Free Cleansing Shampoo, Strengthening Therapy Transitioning Mousse, Strengthening Therapy Elongation Mousse and the Strengthening Therapy Silkening Spray. Each of the signature products work in different ways but are all designed to strengthen the hair.

  • Strengthening Therapy Sulfate Free Cleansing Shampoo – This shampoo is recommended to be used before the application of the STS (to prep the hair), after the application of the STS and to maintain between treatments.
  • Strengthening Therapy Transitioning Mousse – The “transitioning” mousse is recommended for those individuals who are transitioning and don’t want to do the “big chop.” And for those naturalistas who enjoy switching their hair up between curly and straight styles.
  • Strengthening Therapy Elongation Mousse – The “elongation” mousse is designed for those naturalistas that prefer to wear their hair straight all of the time.
  • Strenghtening Therapy Silkening Spray – The silkening spray is a conditioning spray that fortifies the hair and can be used after each wash.

Now the question is, would I personally use STS on my hair? And I would have to say no, simply because at this point in my natural journey I don’t wear my hair straight that often or have any issues with frizz/manageability. However, I would consider using this product in the future.  And I would even recommend this system to someone that is struggling with the “big chop” issue, a naturalista who wears her hair straight the majority of the time or a natural that may be tired of dealing with frizz/manageability.

Overall, I must say that I was impressed with the webinar on STS. Like I said I would even consider the system for myself in the future.  And with all of the new products being marketed to naturals, it’s good to have companies willing to provide such detailed information.
