Fitness Friday: New Year, New You, New Me!


This week’s Fitness Friday post is a link up with KLP of one of my favorite hair blogs, Saving Our Strands.

It’s a new year and whether you are a resolution making person or not, for most people the new year represents a fresh start.  Speaking for myself, I lost a significant amount of weight in 2013 but I still have a way to go until I reach my weight loss goals; and even more important than reaching my goals is achieving a level of fitness and maintaining it for the rest of my life.  So, I am not going to dwell on my achievements of last year – instead I’m taking advantage of the freshness and excitement of starting my new year with my mind set on healthy living.

My point is this: regardless of where you are on your fitness and weight loss journeys – haven’t begun yet, made a bit of progress like me, or maybe have backslid a little – think of the new year as an opportunity to make the necessary changes in your life.  Gym memberships, fitness classes and meal plan programs are priced at an all time low this time of year – now is the time to sign up!  Been following my progress but haven’t joined me yet?  Well, now is the time to kick yourself in the butt and get moving!  Think about where you want to be next year this time…I know I want to celebrate bringing in 2015 in the best shape of my life, with the body (and hair) of my dreams!  That won’t happen if I don’t start this year right – with the determination to reach those goals.


Let’s face it: weight loss is not easy.  I don’t care how much or how little you have to lose, it is hard.  But that makes success so much sweeter!  So the first step to the new you in this new year is making up your mind that you want it.  Really want it.  I’m talking about you want it so badly that as your thighs burn from squats, as you cough and sputter doing cardio, as the sweat drips off the tip of your nose – all you can think about is being a slimmer, trimmer and healthier you.  That is the kind of determination we have to have to reach our goals.  We have twelve whole months to get there – you can do it and I WILL DO IT!
