Flat Twist Protective Style Turned Bomb Twist Out

My typical styling routine is to rock one protective style during the week that converts to a bomb twistout on the weekends (or later half of the week).  Wearing cute updos serves a dual purpose: helps me retain length better by protecting my ends and minimizing manipulation but also means that I only have to style my hair once per week, sometimes longer depending on how long the style lasts.  My normal go-to is some type of flat twist protective style, whether its an updo or a crown twist.

This week I tried something slightly different, inspired by another YouTube vlogger, 4a Daniels.  I liked this look because I don’t always want to wear the back of my hair styled going upwards, it exposes my nape area and makes me self conscious about the “beady beez” that are omnipresent in my life.

I’m normally not overly concerned with my edges being super sleek because quite honestly the texture of my hair doesn’t conform easily and I’m just happy to have healthy edges so I don’t try to brush them into submission.  But, having a knotty nape can keep the look from being polished.  This style, while still a protective, doesn’t highlight the nape the way many updo styles often do.

Also, I used a line of products sent to me for review, Jamaican Mango & Lime Pure Naturals.  What’s different about these products is instead of being focused on curl definition, curl hold and/or curl elongation like nearly every other “natural” line – these products are all about moisture.  Which I really appreciate because whatever your texture – kinky, curly or relaxed – it won’t look good unless its healthy and moisturized.  I’ll be sharing a full review on this line soon, so hold tight until I can share my full thoughts.

One thing about flat twist protective styles and updos, it really doesn’t matter much how long or short your hair is.  Everything is twisted and tucked away anyway, so this is a great style for short natural hair as long you are beyond the teeny weeny afro (TWA) stage, but anybody of any texture and length can do this style.  Plus at the end of the week when you take your twists down, it’s like unleashing the fierce!!!

  • Bomb Twist Out indeed!
I too follow this practice of a 2-in-one style: low maintenance/protective style for a week or more (depending) which transforms into a stylish weekend do, without additional work. It save me time, and saves my hair from the elements.
I look forward to your review on this line as well.
