Joico K-Pak Review Joico K-Pak Product Review #L4LHair I purchased both the Joico K-Pak Intense Hydrator and Reconstructor in trial (travel) sizes from Ulta a few months ago to test on my hair before taking the plunge to buy the full sizes, something I highly recommend.  I noticed as I continued to stretch my relaxer that I was suffering breakage – particularly in my crown area.  Many readers suggested giving my hair a protein treatment to combat the issue and you were right, that is exactly what my hair needed.  Now that I have decided to transition to natural, I face the same breakage complication with every wash day since I am constantly dealing with two drastically different hair textures.  These two Joico K-Pak products have been a god send to help strengthen AND soften my hair while decreasing and possibly eliminating breakage.  I have since bought the full size and now feel comfortable giving you my full Joico K-Pak review.

I’ve used Joico products on and off throughout my hair journey with great results in the past; they work really well for relaxed hair to replenish protein that is stripped from the hair by the relaxer.  However, Joico seems to change products in each of their lines rather regularly, which has always confused me.  One minute I’ll see the “original” K-Pak Reconstructor, the next I’ll see a Liquid Reconstructor, Daily Reconstructor, K-Pak Color Therapy, K-Pak Revitaluxe treatment and on top of that the actual packaging (colors) changed!  I was so frustrated trying to figure out which item I wanted to purchase and which I’d used with good results in the past that I would always end up leaving the store without anything.  Well, here is my take on both of the Joico K-Pak products I own and love.

joico k-pak review intense hydrator joico k-pak review joico k-pak review joico k-pak review Joico K-Pak Intense Hydrator:

According to Joico, this is an intensive treatment that works to restore moisture to overly dry, damaged hair.   Apply Intense Hydrator to wet hair and leave on for 3-5 minutes. Rinse, then style as usual.

  • Provides shine and improves manageability and elasticity
  • Renders hair soft, manageable, shiny, and hydrated
  • Bio-Advanced Peptide Complex replenishes Amino Acids
  • Silicone seals the cuticle and delivers intense shine
  • Lanolin and Shea Butter replace lost lipids

How I Use It:

Weekly after washing with heat – usually the Thermal Hair Care Hot Head Deep Conditioning Cap or under my hair steamer.  I always allow the product to sit on my hair for at least 15 minutes although the instructions read to rinse after 3-5 minutes.  My hair responds as if this product is a deep conditioner so I use it as such.

Product Performance:
Leaves my hair soft and moisturized but its strengthening effects are overwhelmingly apparent because my hair does not break along the line of demarcation (as it does when I have used other conditioners thus far on my transition). Despite containing quite a bit of protein, it is balanced with enough moisturizing ingredients making it safe for weekly use without danger of protein overload.

joico k-pak review deep penetrating reconstructor joico k-pak review joico k-pak review joico k-pak review Joico K-Pak Deep Penetrating Reconstructor

A powerful five-minute reconstructor, Joico K-PAK Reconstructor contains the highest amount of Quadramine Complex than any other product in the Joico family. Hair is left shiny, strong and in a healthy, manageable state.

  • Rebuilds and strengthens stressed, physically and/or chemically treated hair
  • Replenishes lost or depleted amino acids with a high concentration of Quadramine Complex
  • Provides maximum protection and reconstruction from the cuticle to the cortex
  • Helps prevent color loss & makes  hair more responsive to styling

How I Use It:
Before and after long term protective styles, about every 6-8 weeks.  I also allow it to penetrate for about 15 minutes with heat.

Product Performance:
Also leaves my hair soft and strong, I have not had a need to follow with a moisturizing conditioner although Joico suggests doing so with the Intense Hydrator when necessary.  Smells like coconuts, thick creamy consistency.  Because it is considered a heavy protein conditioner – I do not recommend using weekly.  Perfect for pre-relaxer and post-relaxer strengthening (how I’ve used it in the past).

Ingredients
Water, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Mineral Oil/ Paraffinum Liquidum/ Huile Minerale, Glycol Stearate, PEG-8 Distearate, Sodium Chloride, Ceteth-2 Hydrolyzed Hair Keratin, Laurdimonium, Hydroxypropyl Hydrolyzed Keratin Myristyl Myristate, Citric Acid, Fragrance, Sorbic Acid, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Yeast Extract/FAEX/Extract De Levure, Aloe Barbadnesis Leaf Juice, Keratin Amino Acids, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, BCC12-Base

Final Thoughts:

These products ARE pricey, but I totally and completely think they are worth it simply because of how amazing they make my hair feel and the fact that they decrease breakage dang near immediately after using.  Often times you can spot these items at discount stores like Marshalls, Ross, TJ Maxx and Burlington Coat Factory to score them a bit cheaper.  As I said, I liked them enough to splurge on the full sized products, so overall they are #L4LHair Approved!
