Keeping our hair in tact at night is a challenge every black woman has dealt with since childhood. From the stocking caps to the scarves and finally the bonnet and satin pillowcases, we’ve all used a plethora of tools and techniques. Now, years later I have two methods that work REALLY well for me to preserve curls at night: pin curling and pineappling. Best of all neither of these techniques require any direct heat, which makes them both healthy for our hair.
I pin curl when I have curls, flips or coils that I want to keep in tact. I pineapple when I have waves (i.e. bantu knot, braid or twist out) or simply don’t have the time or energy to pin curl. I always use silk or satin scarves/bonnets to cover and the next morning, I am still fine as wine when I take my hair down!
