Most people focus on drenching the hair in oils during the winter months, but the benefits of hot oil treatments can be reaped all year long for growing longer, healthier hair. Hot oils help restore the balance of moisture to your hair, especially when applied on freshly washed hair. Most healthy hair oils, such as coconut, amla, and Jamaican black castor oil for example, have conditioning and nourishing effects on the hair and applying them while warm only increases their effects.
Pouring warm oil over your hair can be messy, so most people do their hot oil treatments in the shower but that can be dangerous making the tub or shower extremely slippery. So I have began placing my oil in an applicator bottle and sitting in the bottle in a glass of hot water to warm the oil. This makes it much easier to apply the warm oil in a controlled manner. While relaxed, I stopped doing HOTs regularly but now as a natural, I find that it not only helps me retain moisture better, but also gives my hair shine, which is something I generally feel is lacking.
