Welcome to Mommy & Me, where mom’s share hair stories, tips and information about their own hair along with their daughter’s hair journey. This week I’d like to introduce Stephany and Laila.
About Mommy, Stephany
Hair: Natural, 4a
Regimen: Wash and go styles are my absolute favorite. I usually wash my hair once a week and do a water only wash twice a week. I use Cantu leave in conditioner which is my favorite. To keep my curls in tact I use Cantu Coconut Oil shine and hold mist and Aunt Jackie’s Curl La La Defining Curl Custard. To lay my edges I use Creme of Nature with Argan oil Perfect Edges as needed but not that often.
Once a week I may do a 4 sectioned braid out instead of the wash and go.
About Daughter, Laila
Hair: Natural, 4b
Regimen: My daughter is extremely tender headed so I wash her hair every 2 weeks. I also use Cantu shampoo and leave in conditioner on her hair. To detangle it I use Aunt Jackie’s Knot On My Watch Instant Detangling Therapy. It is absolutely a life saver and detangles her hair like nothing I’ve ever used. I use coconut oil to moisturize her scalp and usually don’t need any other product outside of water to style her hair for the week.
She currently has Senegalese twists in her hair as a protective style since its track season and her training is very intense.
From the Editor: Mommy is being modest – Laila doesn’t just “run” track, she is a Junior Olympic medal winner! You can support her by donating to her Go Fund Me which helps cover her travel and training expenses.
- Both my daughter and I use Cantu Shampoo and leave in conditioner.
- I use Cantu Coconut oil shine and hold mist and Aunt Jackie’s Curl La La Defining Curl Custard.
- For Laila I use coconut oil, Aunt Jackie’s Knot On My Watch Detangler and Water.
Does your hair style or texture influence the way your daughter wants her hair to look? When I had relaxed hair my daughter always wanted straight hair. Now that I’ve grown my hair out natural she still wants straight hair lol!
Is hair time with your daughter a bonding experience or nightmare? Does she enjoy or dread it? My daughter used to hate getting her hair done. She has a head full of long kinky curly hair so trying to comb through it was a nightmare. Then I found the Knot on my Watch detangler and it’s been smooth sailing ever since. She still hates to get it done cause she doesn’t like sitting still that long but it doesn’t hurt her nearly as bad.
Thank you Stephany & Laila for sharing your hair stories with us. You both are gorgeous and have beautiful hair to match!
