Relaxer Update: Length Retained, Bad Experience

relaxer update

I feel like we haven't "talked" in forever, and I have so much to tell you!  Well, for starters, I relaxed myhair on Friday, April 19 ending a 16 week stretch.  I followed my normal self relaxing routine of pre-parting my hair, basing my scalp and protecting the length of my previously relaxed hair with a protein conditioner and oil. I decided to use the new Optimum Care Amla Legend relaxer for a few reasons.  One, I was curious about it. … [Read more...]

Hair Ramble: Long Vs.Short Term Protective Styles

I've been doing a lot of thinking and planning about what I want to do with my hair next now that we are in the FINAL week of our L4LPSC. *cue crowd cheer!*  On one hand, as I told you I have started missing my hair!  I'm ready to do a length check, see and feel my hair, run my fingers through it, etc.  For me, there is a difference between "regular" protective styles such as buns and updos and "hidden" protective styles like braids, weaves … [Read more...]

Wash Day: Braid Take Down Time!

Wash Day

After wearing the same set of cornrows under my wig for the entire month of March, I took them down for a really thorough wash day this weekend.  Similar to my weave take down process, I applied grapeeed oil generously to lubricate my strands to minimize tangling and then carefully unbraided each cornrow making sure to remove any shed hair as I worked. I am about 14 weeks post relaxer so I have a lot of new growth and I was expecting a decent … [Read more...]

Cute Protective Styles: Favorites of the L4LPSC

cute protective styles

I think throughout the L4LPSC I've proven that cute protective styles do exist.  You do not have to resort to the same ole bun everyday or rely solely on extensions and wigs (unless you want to, of course).  If you want dressier 'dos or to break out of your styling repertoire  here are my favorites from our three month challenge: httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoX13CAJsa4 As mentioned in the video, I created tutorials for each of these … [Read more...]

Wash Day: Same ole braids…but time for a new wig!

Longing 4 Length

I know the end of the challenge has been a lot more boring than the start, and I apologize for that, but I'm 13 weeks post-relaxer!  Ain't nobody got time to be wrestlin' with new growth and possibly causing breakage for the sake of being creative with styles, ya know?!  So...as I mentioned in Hair Care Beneath the Wigs, I try to keep the same set of braids in for at least a month to REALLY minimize maniuplation for maximum growth … [Read more...]

Protective Styling – I’m Cashin’ Out!!!

Sooooooo, I haven't felt restricted the entire time of our challenge and in fact was seriously considering wigging, weaving and protecting to full BSL.  I have plenty of hair to choose from...and a few things I am excited to do for the first time (such as go blonde), so why not?  Well randomly my bestie texted me that she needed to talk to me about something later, but that she was at the hair dresser's at the moment.  And picturing her having … [Read more...]
