I’m so excited about my first upcoming official review featuring Shea Moisture products! Shea Moisture has taken the hair world by storm and are “must haves” for many ladies, both natural and relaxed, but I have never used any items enough to fully review. I have however recommended them at length to friends and family and used them whenever I visit home because my mother has a full arsenal of Shea Moisture. So when they offered to send me the new Shea Moisture Tahitian Noni & Monoi collection, I jumped at the opportunity!
Morinda citrifolia, aka Tahitian noni, is a tree native to Southeast Asia and Australiasia whose fruit (and consequent pulp and juice extract) are high in antioxidants (vitamins A and C) along with iron, potassium and vitamin B3. Monoï oil is an infused perfume-oil made from soaking the petals of Tahitian gardenias in a semi-wax coconut oil. Therefore Monoi has been dubbed “coconut oil’s sexy cousin.”
The Shea Moisture Tahitian Noni & Monoi Collection offers curly to straight versatility without permanently altering hair. It is a protein based treatment designed to smooth and control frizz, leaving textured hair more manageable for up to four weeks. These “smoothing systems” are a new hot item popping up everywhere and although they are mainly marketed towards naturals – all Black women have textured hair. My relaxed hair, when air-dried has quite a bit of texture plus my new growth. So, as I always say the product descriptions do not determine whether or not it will work for you, pay attention to the ingredients and the product’s purpose.
To begin, from Shea Moisture I received four products of the Tahitian Noni & Monoi line: the Conditioning Shampoo, Rinse Out Conditioner, Hair Scalp Weekly Treatment and High Shine Glosser. To complete my review of the entire line, I purchased the Nourishing Hair Masque and will report my results at a later date.
As with all Shea Moisture products, this line is free of sulfates, parabens, phthlalates, paraffin, mineral oil, synthetic fragrance, synthetic color, DEA, formaldehyde and no animal testing. Each product contains certified organic Shea Butter; revitalizing Tahitian Noni, an antioxidant enriched with Vitamin C to help maintain hair health; reparative Monoi Oil, which revives damaged hair; and Keratin, Peptides and Botanical Extracts to nourish, repair and protect distressed hair fibers.
The products retail for about $10 each and the entire system can be purchased in four ounce sizes for $19.99. Available at Target stores nationwide.
My personal review will follow after I have used these products sufficiently to form definitive opinions. If you have already tried this product line, let me know what you think!
