There are so many hairstyles and looks I want to try, but I find myself being lazy more often than not during wash day.  I just want to get in, get out and get done!  But just to try something a little different this week, instead of doing my normal side parted flat twist style, I decided to do a faux fro using the flat twist n’ curl method.

I began wash day and preparation for the style by:

I’m loving the TGIN product line right now!

As part of the #HealthyHair4Summer challenge, I am refraining from using direct heat.  I normally blow dry my hair before twisting but because I’m coming up on my one year nappiversary, I know I’ll be flat ironing and doing a big trim at the end of the challenge.  By holding off on the heat, I know my ends will be in better shape when September rolls around.

Next I began creating the twist n’ curl fro.  I parted my hair near the crown and parted my hair in sections about a finger width apart going away from the part.  I applied TGIN Twist n’ Define cream to each section and flat twisted the front going toward my face, the sides toward my ears and the back toward the nape.  Once I reached the ends I applied a dab bit more of the TGIN cream and rolled the ends onto a white perm rod.

After allowing my hair to dry completely, I carefully unraveled.  My magic twist out combination is always using the LOC method with a liquid or leave in + oil (usually Fountain JBCO food) + cream or gel styler.  I’m experimenting with the TGIN Twist & Define cream and am going to try a few more looks before giving my final thoughts, but I do like the definition I received from using this product.

I’ve been using Fountain JBCO food for well over a year and I love the way it seals moisture in my hair and helps protect my ends.  I’ll be sharing a bit more on why this is my preferred castor oil of choice soon, but just know that it’s really good stuff! lol

Before fluffing and separating

I gently fluffed my roots because unlike most of my twist outs, the look I wanted wasn’t super defined – I wanted the messy “undone” fro look!

Even though I typically prefer more definition and a side part, I love the fro-ish style too!  I received a ton of compliments and who doesn’t like being told their hair looks good?!  I think I’ll start experimenting a bit more with this silhouette.

I’m linking up with my girls at Saving Our Strands and Just Grow Already for their #WashDayExperience to find out what everyone else in the blogosphere is using and loving these days.

Oh….and have you checked out the #HealthyHair4Summer challenge?  It’s pretty awesome!

  • YES YES YES TO THIS SHAPE!!!

You look fantastic with bangs!!! Do you have to re-twist at night to maintain the look?

Thanks for sharing your #washdayexperience chica!

Very nice! I have been experimenting with TGIN products too. Ooooh where can I find the newly designed hothead? 🙂

  • I’m gonna join the chorus on this look on you as well. This ‘curly fro’ suits you! Don’t you love how you can change your entire look with slight change in styling. I’m like you, I kill the side part. I have this technique on my ‘to try’ list having been loving it on the “curly” girls for some time, it’s great to see it on a similar texture. This bumps it up the list a bit.

Tell me though, how are you maintain this look? And I’d love to know how long it lasts.

    • Thank you! It only lasts me a few days at most but it also depends on how much “fro” you are comfortable with…I usually change it up after 2-3 days. Honestly my q-redew has been great at helping me restyle without having to start over.
