Wash Day | Perm Rod Set on My 4c Hair

I haven’t done a full perm rod set on my 4c natural hair since I was transitioning.  Also, I’ve only done it on stretched blow dried hair.  But since one of the “rules” for the #HealthyHair4Summer challenge is to minimize direct heat usage, I decided to forgo my “normal” routine of blowing my hair out before styling.  I followed my regular wash day regimen:

  • Shampooed with Kinky Curly Come Clean
  • Oil Rinsed (read about oil rinsing) with KeraVada Super Ego Oil – this oil is amazing!!!
  • Deep conditioned with TGIN Honey Miracle Hair Mask (review) using my Hot Head Deep Conditioning cap (review)
  • Detangled with my Felicia Leatherwood brush (review) and twisted my hair in about 10 chunky twists before rinsing the conditioner

Once I rinsed the conditioner, I began to create the style.  As you see in the video tutorial, I used KeraVada products to create this style.  As usual, I followed the LOC method using the KevaVada Creme Brulee as my leave in, the KeraVada Super Ego Breakage/Shedding oil to seal and the HD High Definition Gel as the cream styler.

After layering these three products, I two strand twisted each section all the way to the end and then wound it around a perm rod in a corkscrew motion versus rolling it onto the rod.  I sat under my hooded dryer for about twenty minutes then headed to bed.

The next morning I dipped my fingers into a bit more of the KeraVada oil to prevent frizz as I unrolled each section.  I tugged on the end of each twist to cause the curl to naturally “open” and separated the curls for fullness.  I was going to wear it down, but then…ya’ll…it’s hot.  It’s officially summer and I realized I’d rather rock an updo so I pulled it up with a headband and a few giant bobby pins.

I’ll be presenting much more information on KeraVada when I share my full review on the line, but I have some absolute favorites already.  I’ve been talking about wanting to incorporate Indian powders and Ayurvedic herbs into my hair regimen for years and even did it for a few wash days but honestly, I’m just too lazy to keep it up.  Having a product line that does the work for me is like the best thing since sliced bread!  Stay tuned for more on KeraVada products.
