I’ve been on vacation forEVER and a day – or at least it feels that way. I’ve enjoyed every moment of fun with family and friends, even though I’ve been battling extremely limited internet service (long story). I was so indecisive about what I wanted to do with my hair. I’m currently 18 weeks post relaxer and know that I won’t be wearing my hair “out” very long so relaxing seemed futile. I was hesitant to get a sew-in for the reasons I spoke of in my ‘Interview Appropriate Hair‘ post and to be perfectly real – I’m all wigged out at the moment. Braids were a thought but for some reason, I think of braids as more of a summertime style. Soooooo, I decided to just do my own hair til I figured it out and not rush into anything. Surprisingly, this wash day went extremely smoothly! For those who have been following MY hair journey for a while, you know that normally around 14 weeks post I start to have issues managing my new growth and begin to suffer from tangling and breakage. I don’t feel I had much of either this week, about which I am ecstatic!
I washed using Cream of Nature Argan Oil Shampoo, deep conditioned with ORS Replenishing Pak, detangled then sat under my mom’s Pebco tabletop hooded dryer for about 15 minutes to dry the bulk of my hair. I was really surprised by the softness and manageability of my new growth and hair overall. I used a blow dryer along with my jumbo rake comb to dry and stretch the roots – look at the difference between my left and right sides…shrinkage is VERY real!
After my hair was completely dry, I sprayed a tiny amount of Chi heat protectant and flat ironed in medium sized sections. I realize the reason I’m so bad at flat ironing my hair is because I don’t have the patience to do the small sections that are necessary to get my hair very straight. So, my relaxed hair is shiny and smooth but the roots are clearly still a lil puffy. While that may bother some people, its perfectly fine with me!
After I got it flat ironed, I added a few curls and pin-curled. I finished my makeup while allowing the curls to cool and set, then removed the pins and applied Jane Carter Nourish n’ Shine before finger combing to style. The final look is BOMB if I do say so myself!
The bangs are everything. Something so simple changes my entire look and completely cures and hair boredom I may have had! And the curls in the back? Fab! My roots not being straight doesn’t even matter and may even enhance the body of the style!
My only issue were the tangles that I encountered on my wet hair – I realized that I should have finger detangled and removed any shed hair BEFORE washing. I took note to make sure I do that next wash day. I also took a few reminders from Jeni of Just Grow Already! and used my fingers primarily as much as possible and made sure to apply plenty of conditioner to my line of demarcation. My hair is coming along…I think 2014 will finally be the year I achieve my goals! *fingers crossed*
